There's something about the water that allows me to box up all my cares and give them to God. When life gets heavy and I need to let go, I go to the water. Salt water or fresh water, it really doesn't matter. But looking out over the water brings peace to my soul.
Kayaking has been a special pastime for me for a few years now. However, because of a frozen shoulder, I wasn't able to paddle for the past couple years. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to spend some time at the lake kayaking and it felt good. Getting out on the water, feeling the breeze in my face and the hot sun beating down was restorative.
As I paddled away from the shore, my heart turned to the Lord in prayer for many cares and pains that were on my heart. It felt like freedom to pass those things to Him. We had such a sweet time of fellowship!
Sometimes, life just sucks. There are so many negative things. There are unfathomable hurts and pains that seem to crush us beneath their heavy load. I was talking to the Lord about them, when He gracefully interrupted me and asked me to be still.
I surrendered to His call and allowed His beauty and peace to soak in my soul. I paddled up the lake and it was smooth and I seemed to speed right along. After a short time, I stopped and just soaked it in. I relaxed my paddle and listened to the water lapping on the kayak. The birds chirping on the shore. The noises of people in their yards at the lake. The wind blowing through the trees.
All this helped me focus on the God of the universe who created all of it. Who knows all that is going on in our world, and all that is going on in mine. The thing that continues to amaze me is that He cares about all of it. I simply rested in His goodness and mercy. After some time of rest, I began to paddle back.
I was in a place in the lake where you have to work hard to get moving. The wind was blowing against me and the current in the lake was pushing against me. In that moment the Lord nudged my soul. "When you are in sync with Me, listening to Me and following My way, willing to surrender everything to me - you will cruise along. But when you forget Me or ignore me and try to do it all alone, You will struggle and fight."
"Be still and know that I am God," Psalm 46:10 continues to roll through my mind and soul. Do you have a place where God speaks to your heart? Are you tuned in to God when the world around you is crazy and everything seems to be falling apart? Are you willing to surrender everything and follow Him?

Christmas Ponderings
Merry Christmas everyone! As I have been reading through the Christmas story once again, I was struck by the beauty of the love of Christ all over again. God's love is beyond anything we can even begin to imagine or explain. God sent His One and Only Son, Jesus, to earth to give every person the opportunity to spend eternity in heaven with Him. How incredible is that?
The point that struck me this year is that not only did God send Him, He came willingly. Picture it with me for a moment. Jesus, Son of the Most High God, left heaven for us. Jesus was in the most perfect place. There is no sickness, no death, no unmet needs. The temperature is always perfect, the atmosphere always full of love, there is no sin in heaven. Yet this Jesus, left all of that behind, humbled Himself and grew in the womb of a teenage girl to be born in this sin-stained world, full of anger, hatred, dirt, and sickness, knowing that He would face ridicule, beatings, and death for us.
He had everything and gave it up for us...He gave it up for you. You were worth it. You were on His mind as He was nailed to a cross. See the babe didn't stay in the manger, but grew up and gave up His life to set us free. This is love - "For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us, " (Romans 5:6-8 NKJV).
Don't leave the babe in the manger. Jesus grew, lived, died, was buried, and is resurrected. He is alive and seated at the right hand of the Father. Pray and accept His promise of eternal life with Him today. May He bless you and keep you this Christmas season.

Be Still...
Psalm 46:10 (NKJV): "Be still and know that I am God."
Advent season is here - we are looking to celebrate the birth of our Savior. We spend countless hours preparing for Christmas. Cooking, cleaning, cooking, shopping, cooking, wrapping, preparing, cooking... We want everything to be just right.
During the Advent season, will we focus on the Who of Christmas this year rather than the what - for instance, what am I going to eat, what am I going to wear, what am I going to get? Are we willing to take as much time to prepare our hearts (Christ's home) as we do our homes, the food, and all the trimmings? What if we took time to prepare our hearts as well as all the other stuff? What would happen if we took time to get alone before God and confess our need to control the season and all the "stuff" we feel is so urgent and ask God to lead us and allow Him to heal us and let Him take the lead?
Are you willing to sacrifice something you want to do, to do something He wants you to do? Are you spending time alone in prayer and keeping your heart open to hear from Him? Are you praying for strength to be obedient to Him in all things this season?
Jesus holds all of us - and this whole world - in the palm of His hand. So what if the mince pies don't get made? So what if every ornament is not in place? Are those things really as important as spending time in His presence, preparing your heart for His coming?
Jesus came to this earth the first time as a baby. The next time He comes, He's coming for us. We must be ready. No amount of shopping, cooking, or cleaning will matter on the day the trumpet sounds. I encourage you to take time each day to get before the Lord - just you and Him. Find a spot that is quiet where you can spend time in His presence and ask Him to help you to "be still and know that He is God". Let go of the endless lists of to do's and focus on the true meaning of Christmas. "Jesus is the reason for the season" - let's give Him the welcome He deserves.

Verdict: NOT GUILTY
"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit." Romans 8:1-4 NIV
How much would a prisoner living on death row desire for the warden to come and declare him not guilty? This is how we all live apart from Jesus Christ. We are separated from God bound to live a life without hope for eternity. There is a heaven and a hell and anyone who does not choose Jesus to lead their life and dwell within them is as condemned as a prisoner on death row. For those who think they have time to wait...you may want to think again. NO choice is a choice. You either choose Jesus or not. Choosing Jesus means that God grants you pardon from your life of sin and brings you into the life that Jesus died to give you. Like verse 1 in the Scripture above says, "There is NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (emphasis mine). Jesus died to break the power of sin and death over His people and has accomplished it. He has done it.
The only thing left to do is to accept it. Are you willing to accept the grace and forgiveness that God has provided through the work Jesus did on the cross as He died, in the grave as He broke the bonds of death and arose, and in the resurrection as He ascended to be seated at the right hand of the Father to intercede on our behalf? Are you willing to cry out to Jesus so He may claim you as His own and declare you NOT GUILTY before God the Father? He will be coming back one day for His children. Is your name in the Book of Life (Revelation 3:5)? Does He know that you belong to Him? Be assured and comforted that if anyone calls on the name of the Lord, he (or she) will be saved (Acts 4:12). There is hope because we have a Savior who has paid the price for our redemption (John 19:30). Won't you call out to Him today?

REVIVE our Souls
Do you know how much you are loved? Do you realize that you are precious in God's sight? Do you realize Jesus died for you-to forgive you and cleanse you of your sins?
Step back for a moment and take a look at your life. Are there any storms present, brewing, or subsiding? If so, rest assured you are not alone. Jesus is right there to hold you up, to carry you, and to be "your sufficiency". He is able and can calm the storm.
Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” (NKJV accessed via biblegateway.com)
These disciples were physically with Jesus, in the middle of a storm, fearful for their lives. Yet, they woke Him, trusted in Him and He brought them through it all. We can learn much from this passage. Today, I want you to focus on giving it to Jesus, whatever your it is. The fear you have, the health issues, family difficulties, financial woes, spiritual lacking, or a range of other possibilities. Give them to Jesus and allow Him to take control. Pray, listen to His instruction, obey His voice, and raise your thanks to Him through praise, whatever your circumstance. Our God is able. Jesus is mighty to save and He's just waiting for you to seek Him.

Rest in Him
I had the privilege to share at Camp Peniel (in Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia) this past weekend. They host a Ladies' Spa Retreat each fall in September and they invited me to be their speaker this year. It is always an amazing time for ladies to come together, get rested, be pampered, have fun, laugh, cry, and get filled up spiritually. There were many prayers prayed as this weekend came and the presence of the Lord filled the place.
I have always been amazed each time I go there, how the Lord makes Himself so real and my heart can be stilled in the beauty of such a wonderful God-given place. His handprints are all over it. This year the theme was nautical and my topics reflected that in "Faith in the Waves". On Friday I spoke about Resting in Him, Saturday was a time to Revive our Souls, then Sunday the Lord gave us strength to Renew our Pilgrimage with Him.
Do you take time to simply REST in Jesus? Is your life just too busy? If so, today is the perfect day to go to Him and pray for rest.
Matthew 11:28-30 says, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." (NKJV)
Have you ever seen a yoke of oxen? How many are yoked together? Of course, two. This is how Jesus wants us to be with Him. Yoked to Him, trusting Him to direct our paths and leading us in His ways and His timing. This is where we find rest. Trusting Jesus to go ahead of us. I pray for all you dear ones that you will call on the name of Jesus, yoke to Him, and trade in your heavy burden for His light one. May you begin today resting in Him.

Complete Trust
Today I thought it would be nice to look at some Scriptures that focus our hearts on trusting the Lord. Times can be tough. Changes come that we are not always ready for. Time continues to tick away whatever our lives are experiencing. Trusting God with our lives and all the circumstances that come our way instill a peace within that nothing else can. Are you trusting God with all the what ifs? if onlys? and every victory, question, and frustration you are encountering?
I encourage you to choose a Scripture that speaks to your heart and write it out. Put it somewhere you will read it often, then memorize it.
"In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?" Psalm 56:11 NASB
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6 NASB
"Many are the sorrows of the wicked, But he who trusts in the LORD, lovingkindness shall surround him." Psalm 33:5 NASB
This is but a small sampling. Read and study the Scriptures and see what the Lord will reveal to you about trusting in Him. We serve the God of the universe. The one who sent His one and only Son, Jesus to bear the burden of sin. To be born, live, die, and be resurrected so we might find freedom from sin and be given the gift of eternal life.
Have you given your life, your all to Him? If not, my prayer for you is that you would seek Him and find Him. Pray for forgiveness of your sins and ask Him to dwell in your heart and guide your life. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." Revelation 3:20-22 NASB

Safe in the Shepherd's Arms
"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want." Psalm 23:1 NKJV
This week I have been memorizing Psalm 23. In my time memorizing, I have also been meditating on the significance of this verse. Sheep are not self-sufficent. They are helpless and in need of someone to tend, care for, and protect them. For them to be safe and secure, they need a shepherd. We are no different.
We are in need of a Helper. Someone who gets us. Someone who loves us unconditionally. Someone who is there for us no matter the situation or circumstance. Being human, we are flawed. As much as we may want to be self-sufficient, we are all in need of a Savior (Shepherd) who is there for us and knows our needs before we ask (Matthew 6:8).
Please don't misinterpret this passage of Scripture. It does not guarantee we will be exempt from hard times or difficult circumstances. It also does not mean that we will be given everything we want.
I encourage you to read the rest of this Psalm. I think you will find-as I have-your rest will be found in Him. Trust your life in the nail-scarred hands of Jesus as your personal Savior. Allow Him to be your Shepherd.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.

Filling Up
I've been reading through the book of Proverbs. It amazes me how simple some of these verses are. The simplicity leaps off the pages and turns my thinking to wonder how humanity has gotten so far away from laws and commandments that our Creator put in place to keep us safe and make us good citizens on this earth, and one day in eternity with Him.
When did things go awry? I guess we have to go back to the Garden of Eden and examine the hearts of the first created humans. Eve thought God was keeping something from her-something good. The serpent whispered silky lies in her ear, seducing her to believe lies that would wound all of humanity.
It still happens to us today. God's Word tells us we are made in His image (Genesis 1:27), yet many of us tear ourselves apart and speak terrible things about one another. God's Word tells us that if we are in Him, we have the fruit of the Spirit which is, "love, joy, peace, longsuffering (patience), kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control." (Galatians 5:22-23) Yet how many of us truly have all of these. These fruit are there, ripe for the picking if we would just reach out and accept the gifts Jesus died to give us. "Abundant life," John 10:10 says. That is what Christ came to give us. Yet, like Eve, we scorn it and toss it back as a worthless trinket.
The daily practice of Bible reading opens the mind and the heart to grow more like Jesus. That is truly our calling. I encourage you to begin reading daily, prayerfully for Jesus to fill you with the Spirit allowing the truth of God's Word to penetrate your heart and make a lasting change from the inside out. Claim the fruit of the Spirit, walking daily in it and see the difference living in His will can make. Why not start right now!

In His Hands
Hannah is quite a lady. Last week, I spent quite a bit of time reading and researching her biography in 1 Samuel chapter 1. She was barren, unable to have children. Her husband took a second wife who was able to bear him children. Because of this, she was a constant source of aggravation to Hannah. Year after year, Elkanah (their husband), Hannah, Peninnah, and their children would take the journey to make their yearly sacrifice at Shiloh.
During this time, Peninnah would pick at Hannah, making her miserable. After eating, Hannah went to the temple and poured her heart out before the Lord. She was desperate. She had come to the end of herself and could no longer take it. She prayed from misery and heartache so deep down that her mouth was moving, yet no words would come forth. When Eli the priest saw her, he rebuked her for being drunk. Hannah explained the ache within her being. This hurt ran down inside the core of her heart. He responded telling her to go in peace and asked the Lord's blessing to be upon her.
This is where God calls us to be (Psalm 57:2). This is where Jesus called his disciples to be (Matthew 16:24). We are called to be clay in the Potter's hands (Jeremiah 18:6). Hannah lived in a time when having children was looked upon as a blessing from God and a barren womb a curse. Yet, they failed to see God's timing. We see in verse 5 that the Lord closed her womb. Then inversely we see in verse 19 that she conceives. God's timing is perfect; it was in Hannah's and it is in yours.
What is He calling you to today? Is there something you know God is asking of you? Is Jesus asking you to follow Him? Is the Holy Spirit nudging your soul? Allow Hannah to be a messenger of hope to you today, take a lesson from her life and cry out to Him from the depths of your heart and listen for His answer. Remember, His timing is perfect and there is nothing He cannot do.

FREEDOM
"And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full." John 16:23-24 NKJV
Jesus' resurrection paved the way for us to be in relationship with the Father. We are no longer separated by the chasm of sin. Jesus paid the price: it was not free for Him. However, He made a way and it is free for us. He stepped in and filled the gap created by disobedience. What joy we can have, what fullness of life we can live!
Is your life full of joy? If not, why? We have the promise of His joy to fill us. Have you asked for it? As sons and daughters of the King of kings, we are heirs to all of His promises. In the above Scripture passage, we have a promise to receive what we ask for. The only condition is that we ask for God's will in our lives. He wants all that is best for us. Not just the good stuff, but the great stuff!! Isn't that exciting?
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord,
thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and
I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me,
when you search for Me with all your heart."
Jeremiah 29:11-13 NKJV
He knows what He has in store for each of His children. We only need to say "YES". Saying yes can be hard to do, but when you know the One who is leading, it is much easier to follow. If you aren't ready to say yes, take some time and read, study your Bible, and pray. Get to know the Lord on a personal level. Spend time talking to Him like you do your best friend. Be honest and take time to listen. He may speak through the Word of the Bible. He may speak through Christian friends. He may speak in very unexpected ways, but I desire for you to know that He does speak. Listen carefully my dear friends, Jesus is "standing at the door and knocking. If you hear His voice and open the door, He will come in and be with you." (Revelation 3:20 paraphrased)
Dear friend, Jesus awaits. Call on Him today.

A Gift for the World
"For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6 NKJV
We are now into the second week of Advent. The days continue to quickly slide by and the countdown to Christmas is on. The more I read and study my Bible this Christmas season, the more in awe I am of God's great love for us. That He would send His One and Only Son to this earth to live and then die for our sins...
I love this Scripture. The description of who this Baby would be is absolutely amazing. To think of Christ being born in a stable, not a nice barn as most of us in North America are accustomed to, but in a cave: dirty, dingy, dark, and dank. It is very humbling. What a place for the Savior of the world to be born! Yet, Scripture reveals the truth to us (Luke 2:7).
As we stroll-or run-through the days leading up to Christmas, may we remember it's not about the gifts or the toys, the gadgets or the food; Christmas is about the gift of our One and Only Savior of the world, coming to us as a babe, growing into a man who would give His life for us. Let's make it personal. He gave His life for you. If you were the only person, He still would have given His life for you. He loves you, dear one.
He is extending His hand to you right now. Will you hold on and give Him your heart, your all? Will you allow Him to be your Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace? When you think of Jesus, don't leave Him in the manger as a helpless babe. He is alive. He is seated at the right hand of the Father, interceding for you and for me (Hebrews 1). Remember whose birthday we are celebrating. Have you figured out what gift you will give Jesus this year?

Blessed Understanding
"The unfolding of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple." Psalm 119:130 NASB
If you had an electrical problem in your house, you would probably call an electrician.
A problem with your car would find you seeking the advice of a mechanic.
When you are experiencing trouble or pain, fall to your knees and seek the One who loves you and knows you better than anyone. Jesus Christ died and shed His blood so we could have an intimate, personal
relationship with God Almighty. Don't allow anything to come between you and your Lord.
In addition to prayer, seek the guidance of the Bible. The Bible is our guide book for living.
It has what we need to know. It teaches us how to live.
The Word of God is truth. Psalm 119:60
The Word of God is light. Psalm 119:105
The Word of God is alive and able to break through barriers. Hebrews 4:12
Not one of us is able to know all things. No one except the Lord Himself. Yet, reading God's Word
-The Bible-
will open our understanding to the Truth. The prayerful daily practice of Bible reading will teach us, strengthening our relationship with the One True God and our Lord Jesus Christ. As we listen to the Holy Spirit teach, we can develop discernment and wisdom that will enable us to hear His voice and give us the courage to follow His will for our lives.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You for this day. Thank you for Your promise to never leave nor forsake us. Thank You Lord for Your Word that reveals truth to us. We need Your touch and Your wisdom Lord. Pour out Your Spirit upon us that we may experience the Word of God with fresh eyes and a fresh understanding. Reveal the truths to us as You know we are ready for them. Lord, we pray for a blessed understanding of Your Word. Give us the courage and boldness to walk in Your Truth. In Jesus name, Amen.
I would like to challenge you to take time each day for the next 40 days to read from your Bible. Don't just read it to say you've done it, but pray and ask God to reveal what His Word is saying, and ask Him to direct you to apply it to your life. Some days you may read a verse or two. Other days, you may read a chapter or maybe more. How much you read is not important. Learning from and applying the Scriptures to your life is the goal of this challenge. If you miss a day, don't fret or give up. Remember, tomorrow is a new day and keep on going. He wants to spend time with you. Why not start right now? He's waiting for you!

The Promise of Eternal Life
If you knew your life would be over tomorrow, what would become important to you in that moment? Would you consider what you did not have or would you wonder if your family and friends knew how much you truly loved and cherished them? Would you thirst for more stuff or would you be content with what your life was? Would you think about eternity and what that really means? Are you ready to meet Jesus face to face and answer the questions, "What have you done with the gifts I have given you? What did you do for Me?"
Revelation reveals the end of the earth as we know it and the beginning of the beauty of God's promise of eternity with Him. Revelation 22:12 says, "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done." {NKJV}
This is not just a nice story but reality for everyone. Everyone who chooses Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour. John 3:16 reveals the promise, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." {NKJV}
Did you notice the word "whoever" in the above Scripture? There is a choice each one must make. You either choose the Lord Jesus as your Saviour or you don't. Choosing Jesus bridges the great gap that separates us from God the Father. There is but one path to Him, the path that calls us to put our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.
I was watching a commercial about a new show that will discuss if we can live forever. My response was, "Yes of course you can, if you have Jesus in your life." It is exciting to think that life does not end when we die. Our life here with our friends and families may cease to exist, yet we have a home in heaven, with Jesus and the Father. There we will live eternally, without the stress or hurts of this life.
Have you made the choice that leads to life? If not, take some time and learn about Jesus and the promises He has made. Get a Bible and start reading it if you haven't already. Find a Bible teaching church that stresses Biblical truths and begin to pray, seeking God and His will. Give your heart and life to the Lord and may we meet one day in eternity.

A Promise for Your Family
School time is here! I have spent this week back into the routine of home schooling our three daughters. They are now in grades 9, 7 and 5! I can hardly believe it. How quickly one year passes and another begins. One thing I rest in as each year passes and my precious babies grow and mature into young women are the promises God has revealed through the Holy Scriptures.
Proverbs 22:6 (NIV) says, “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” I love the promise of this Scripture. However, did you catch the whole and complete meaning behind it? Do you see the responsibility He has entrusted you with? In the very beginning of the promise God reveals to parents that it is our job to “train our children in the way they should go”.
How do we train them? We can begin training them to look to the Lord for all of their needs. Study the Word of God together, pray with your children, thank Him for the food before you each day, praise Him for the weather (even the rain and snow), when you go out into the world remind them that God created it all. If your children go to public or private school, remind them that God gave the inventors and scientists, mathematicians, politicians and teachers the ability and skill to do their jobs. In everything we do, everything we see, everything around us, God’s fingerprints are all over it. Isn’t that exciting? He made it all. He deserves all the glory, honour and praise.
When our jobs are done and we have trained our children, we can confidently cling to the promise our children will not depart from His truth. They may stumble, they may fall, but remember, they too are human. Yet, if you have raised them in the knowledge and admonishment of the Lord you have His Word. To further study how we can train our children I suggest you prayerfully study Deuteronomy 6:4-9. Take the time and make the effort to apply these verses to your family life. God loves you so much. He wants to be the focal point and the cornerstone for your family. Will you invite Him in and train your family for all eternity?

We All Have A Purpose
In Ephesians 2:10, Paul clearly states a promise God has given to all believers, everywhere in the world, across the centuries, past, present and future. Beyond that, His promises are for believers whatever your age or station in life. Hold this one tightly. Unwrap it as though it were the most precious gift-just as all the promises in the Bible are-and apply it to your life. Remember that these gifts and promises are not to place on a shelf and admire, but are to be used in your life.
Are you ready for the promise? Here it is. "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."
You are His workmanship- God has created you special and individual. You are not like anyone else in this world. He has designed and fashioned you to stand out and be all He has created you to be. Who are you created to be? That is something you need to take to the Lord in prayer. He is willing and able to show you if you would just ask. Seek His will and purpose for your life. He may not speak in an audible voice, but He might. He may not give you an answer in the moment you ask, but He can. The truth is we must first seek His face with a true and repentant heart. He will guide us and direct us if we will give our hearts to Him. Guard yourselves against the schemes of the devil. He is real and he wants to destroy you. If you listen to his lies you will begin to believe many things about yourself that are not true. You were created by God and God doesn't create any junk. Dear One, you are precious in God's sight. He loves you like no one else.

Jesus came to this Earth all those years ago to show us how to live. He forgave those who hurt Him. He loved those who were in need. He healed the lame, fed the hungry, hung out with those who on the surface looked unworthy. Can we say the same? Good works can mean a range of things. The point is this. Through prayer and quiet in the Lord's presence, He will guide and direct you into the good works He has prepared for you. It is amazing what one act of kindness can do. For instance, when you take the time to smile or say hello to someone, there is the potential to make a huge impact on another life who then may make impact on another, and so on...
...which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.-From the beginning, God had a plan for your life. He created you male or female, placed you in the city, town or village in the part of the world, in the time and generation you are in for a reason. He knew what colour your hair would be, how old you would live to be and what your purpose would be. He does not want it to be a secret. Have you taken the time to truly seek His will and plan for your life. Know that His plan is perfect and when you are walking in it, there will be trials, but along with those trails come the joy of knowing the Lord.
Having a friend and personal relationship with Jesus Christ has held me up in times I felt I would be crushed under the weight of oppression I was experiencing. A personal relationship with Jesus is the one thing in life we all seek-whether we know it or not. Whatever you may be struggling with-and we all have struggles-realize that Jesus understands. If you don't believe me, read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in the Bible and see for yourself. He is there standing at the door of your heart, knocking and waiting. He is a gentleman and will not force you, but He will be there when you are ready to accept His gifts and promises.

Water Walking
When was the last time you said, "I can't do it. That is just too hard!" Maybe it was earlier today or maybe it has been awhile. Personally, I have said it too many times about too many things. In the past few weeks-maybe even months-I have been preparing to get my new book out into the world. The Lord laid this message on my heart, gave me the words and the courage and led me through each step to hold a final product in my hands: Spiritual Training 101: Preparing for Eternity.
Has it been easy? No. Has it been rewarding? Yes, because I am doing what I have been called to do. However, when I was first called by the Lord to write, I had misgivings and feelings of inadequacy which I still wrestle with. However, I am learning that God is always near. He has a special relationship with us through the blood of Jesus Christ. He gave His Son so we could have a personal relationship with Him. When Jesus left the earth, He sent the Holy Spirit to minister to our hearts and lead us in all things. We are fortunate to be able to have such a close personal relationship with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
I think of the passage in Matthew 14:22-33, when Peter has the opportunity to grow in faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. The disciples had a busy day, following the Master, listening and learning how to reach out to people. Jesus needed to go off by Himself and spend time in the presence of His Father. He sent the disciples off in a boat across the lake to meet up with them later. While they were in the boat a storm came up and rocked and twisted the boat. They became very afraid. As time passed, they looked across the water and beheld a vision like that of a ghost walking on the water. Their hearts grew very afraid and they cried out in fear. Jesus then called out to them, "Be of good cheer,! It is I; do not be afraid." The disciples could not believe their ears. Peter quickly answered Jesus telling Him, "Lord if it is You; command me to come to You on the water."
I'm not sure if Peter had thought about what he was saying or if it just came out. I wonder if he was going through a moment of terror as he actually heard these words coming from his own mouth. Have you ever experienced that thought, wondering who was saying that, then realizing the truth...it was me?
Jesus then told Peter to come to Him and Peter did. In that precious moment, Peter truly walked on water! He had his eyes fixed on Jesus. He must have been gushing with excitement, overflowing with joy. Then something happened. His mind kicked in and the realization of the storm blocked his view of Jesus. He began to sink, the fear of drowning swept over him like the dark of night. He cried out for Jesus to help. "And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, 'O you of little faith, why did you doubt?'"
You see, doubt and fear are two of our greatest hindrances. Whenever they creep in, they have the potential to overwhelm us and cover us to the point of death. Jesus came so we could have life to the full. He can give us the power and strength to do all things. Isn't that a wonderful promise? Do you believe it? Do you have the faith in Him that He can get you through all of those tough things that you cannot see accomplishing? He is waiting for you to call out in His name and request the strength from the Father to do and be all you are called to be. You do not have to feel oppressed. You have the power of Jesus Christ to cling to.
I have been completely amazed by what He has done in my life. He has given me the strength to accomplish things I have never thought possible. He has opened doors I could not see a way of even peeking in. Jesus is absolutely amazing and the courage and strength He offers as a gift will amaze you if you will take the time, jump out of the boat and go water walking with Him.

Obedient Prayer
It amazes me how God can speak to the heart and accomplish just what He says He will do. As humans we can be fickle and forgetful, but God is not like that. Let me share an awesome experience.
Last week, I had a lot going on in my life and house. There were days that I did not spend as much time in the Lord's presence as I would have liked to. I think that happens to all of us by times. Sunday mornings we get up and ready for church and go early so we can pray. (We are in the middle of replacing our church which was consumed by fire on the 22nd of March so our prayers are not only for the service but for direction and unity in the body as we stretch toward the goal of rebuilding.)
We were a bit late on this past Sunday-later than usual anyway-and I rushed to the place where I normally go to meet with the Lord. As I took my spot and opened my prayer, I felt the urge to just be still and quiet. As I knelt there I felt a peace and stillness fill my heart. Within a short time a still, small voice within my soul asked me to pray for the seats in our sanctuary. I quickly thought that I didn't know how many there were, but just as quickly remembered my husband telling me two weeks ago that they changed the layout and set up 109 chairs.
I trusted in the fact that if God asked me to do it and I was obedient, He would do what He said. We had a wonderful service and I was filled. After the service was over, I went to the back and checked the count and what do you suppose I found? 109! I felt a joy and peace flood my soul. What a wonderful gift! Who else could do something like that? I must admit, I was amazed but I shouldn't be. God is so good-ALL the time. He is trustworthy and keeps His promises. It wasn't long after that I realized each and every time we pray in His will, what He wants for our lives, He will provide.
His reminder to me is one I share with you because we all need to know that we serve a Saviour who loves us and desires a personal relationship with each of us. Have you opened your heart and your prayer life to Him? Do you take the time to quietly wait in His presence for an answer? He is waiting for you. He wants all of you. He will ever be with you and lead and guide your life to give you life more abundant.

We were a bit late on this past Sunday-later than usual anyway-and I rushed to the place where I normally go to meet with the Lord. As I took my spot and opened my prayer, I felt the urge to just be still and quiet. As I knelt there I felt a peace and stillness fill my heart. Within a short time a still, small voice within my soul asked me to pray for the seats in our sanctuary. I quickly thought that I didn't know how many there were, but just as quickly remembered my husband telling me two weeks ago that they changed the layout and set up 109 chairs.
I trusted in the fact that if God asked me to do it and I was obedient, He would do what He said. We had a wonderful service and I was filled. After the service was over, I went to the back and checked the count and what do you suppose I found? 109! I felt a joy and peace flood my soul. What a wonderful gift! Who else could do something like that? I must admit, I was amazed but I shouldn't be. God is so good-ALL the time. He is trustworthy and keeps His promises. It wasn't long after that I realized each and every time we pray in His will, what He wants for our lives, He will provide.
His reminder to me is one I share with you because we all need to know that we serve a Saviour who loves us and desires a personal relationship with each of us. Have you opened your heart and your prayer life to Him? Do you take the time to quietly wait in His presence for an answer? He is waiting for you. He wants all of you. He will ever be with you and lead and guide your life to give you life more abundant.

Perfect Peace
"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" John 14:27 NKJV.
Do you believe this promise? Can you begin to wrap your mind around this promise that came to believers right from His own lips? This morning in my oldest daughter's Bible lesson was this promise. I read it over and over considering myself. Do I believe this? Yes, I do!! Does my heart get troubled? At times it does. Why? Because I have failed to imprint this promise on my heart and claim it for my own.
As a growing and maturing Christian, I love to read and study the Word of God. His promises are woven in the text of the Bible throughout every bit of writing from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21! That excites me beyond anything else I can imagine. As I read and study, the Bible comes alive to me. The words that are recorded speak to my soul in ways that I cannot describe.
This morning as I read through this Scripture, I had to stop and think about it. How do I prevent fear and worry to take over? The solution is the same prescription as getting rid of any other negative: more of Him. More of God, more of the Word of God, more time spent in His presence in prayer, fasting and listening for His voice. More following His will and His way for each moment of every day of my life. The closer I draw to Him, the fewer times of fear, hopelessness and despair I will experience.
What about you? Are you ready to take the plunge to trust in the Lord with all your heart, mind, soul and spirit? Are you ready to believe that He can give you lasting and perfect peace? Are you willing to take the time to memorize and study the Word of God so you will be able to claim His promises for your life?
We do not live in a perfect world. Jesus told us we will have times of trouble, but in the same breath He promised that He is in control (John 16:33). Will you allow Him to be in control? Will you take the time necessary to develop a deep and lasting relationship with Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour? Will you call on Him and obey His voice so you can accept His gift of everlasting peace and eternal life?
Consider it dear one. Jesus loves you and will come to you if only you will call on Him. "Jesus said to Him, 'I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'" (John 14:6 NKJV).

Grace Revealed
Easter is almost upon us and I can't help but think of the sacrifice that was made for believers once for all time. All those years ago, Jesus walked His final footsteps on the dusty paths of this Earth on His way to the cross. What must He have been thinking? I'm sure I don't know, but I know His heart must have been overflowing with love because at any point in time He could have called on "more than twelve legions of angels" (Matthew 26:53 NKJV) to come to His rescue and changed the course of life for all of us.
If Jesus hadn't died on the cross we all would be getting what we deserve, death (Romans 6:23). Because of His sacrifice, we have the choice to spend eternity with Him. Have you made your choice? You may think you have all kinds of time, but only God knows the time you will leave this earth. It is reality. We are all born and we all die. There is hope though. Hope in a risen Saviour who went to the cross and died for the sins of anyone who will humble themselves and pray for the forgiveness that only Jesus can give (John 3:16).
But the story didn't end there. It didn't end on the cross. The story continued. Three days later, Christ rose from the grave. He defeated death and the grave. He defeated the enemy of humankind. Jesus defeated the powers of sin in our lives. We can choose to live our lives in obedience to God (Romans 6:12-14). Isn't that an exciting promise? Looking toward Easter, what better gift could you receive than the one Jesus holds out to you now - the gift of eternal life with Him. He is holding it out to you, waiting for you to accept it.
If you would like to accept His gift of salvation here are the steps from a post I wrote last year titled The Greatest Promise.
If you are not a Christian but would like to join the family of God, the steps to becoming part of the family are very simple. The first thing one must do is admit that they are a sinner because we all fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). We are all sinners and make mistakes. It does not matter how many good things we do, we are still sinners. With this admission we also need to realize that the penalty for being a sinner is death (Romans 6:23). We neither deserve to live eternally, nor do we deserve forgiveness, yet God has so graciously provided a way. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ we can come to Him.
The next step is to believe with everything in you that Jesus Christ died for your sins (Romans 5:8). He died for each of us, but it is important that you make it personal. Can you say, Jesus Christ died for my sins, and truly, completely in your heart know it and believe it? If you are struggling with this truth, I recommend you read the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). Read them praying that the Holy Spirit will open your eyes so you may see the truth of what Jesus has done for you.
Last but not least; you must commit your life into His capable hands (Romans 10:8-10). Confess to the Lord that you need Him to lead and guide your life. Give your life into the hands of God and let Him make the changes He desires in your life. He created you and has a plan for your life. Will you submit to Him and give Him full control?
May this Easter find you at peace and part of the family of God. Wherever you are, whoever you are remember, God loves you. He adores you and as one of my favorite hymns says, "Jesus blood can make the vilest sinner clean."
